World Health Organisation's Child Abuse and Neglect (pdf) gives a brief introduction to child sexual abuse and its prevention.

This ECPAT paper Blaming Children for Their Own Exploitation: The Situation in East Asia (pdf) by Amalee McCoy discusses the issue of children from better backgrounds who are seen as being voluntary participants in sexual exploitation.

Putting Children in the Right: Guidelines for Journalists and Media Professionals (pdf) is the International Federation of Journalists is a general introduction to issues related to children at risk, for media personnel.

The Right Not to Lose Hope (pdf) addresses the issues facing children who are in conflict with the law - in particular, the failure of care and protection systems and criminalisation of children's coping strategies.

The UNICEF’s State of the World’s Children reports have statistics and summaries of risks and effectiveness of interventions for children at risk. It is updated annually and can be obtained from www.unicef.org (web).

Toolkit

As part of Save the Children UK’s Make Child Poverty History Campaign, Child Poverty Timelines (for 9-14years old) (pdf) is a resource for child participation understanding the factors involved through doing time-lines. It can be adapted for use in other contexts.

Best practices

Exploitation of the child in a Domestic Labour context is a growing problem in the region. There is increasing awareness of the need to address this. The following ILO resources will help: Good Practices and Lessons Learnt in Combating Hazardous Work in Child Labour (pdf) and Child Domestic Labour in South East Asia - Good Practices to Combat It (pdf).

The Inter-Agency Guiding Principles to Separated and Unaccompanied Children (pdf) sets out principles for the welfare and protection of these children for policy–makers.

Good Practice in Asia-Pac to combat CSEC (pdf) gives more secular case studies from the Asia Pacific Region.

Websites

IPSCAN http://ww.ispcan.org/OnlineResources.html (web) offers online resources for Child Abuse and Neglect including downloadable presentations on Summary of Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) (ppt) and Assessment and Treatment of Sexually Abused Children and Adolescents (ppt). Also available is ISPCAN’s World Perspectives 2004 report (pdf) on the scope of child abuse worldwide.

http://www.talktilitstops.org.uk (web) is an interactive website launched by children's charity NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children UK) to tackle child abuse. TalkTown is part of the charity's national 'Talk 'til it stops' campaign. The site uses artificial intelligence to advise anyone worried that a child is being abused. Users can interact with the characters to get information on Child Abuse.
